With Malice and Only Malice: Periyar admired Bhagat Singh, criticised Gandhiji

With Malice and Only Malice: Periyar admired Bhagat Singh, criticised Gandhiji: Look at this article : http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/op-ed/article2379711.ece I do not think Periyar’s criticism of Gandhi carries ...I feel Periyar’s actions gave the impression he was for the latter even if it had to be at the cost of the first one. Anyway, Was he a freedom fighter too?... I do not know. But even in his campaign for the latter (treating the society of caste related malaise) I think he adopted a negative approach. Can 2 negatives make a positive always?? Can an injustice done at some time be amended by committing one more injustice? If it is the feeling that Brahmins and the Aryans (aka North Indians) have been dominant group in Tamilnadu, then can this be treated by the society (of the dominated lot) revolting against them (the Brahmins and Aryans) unfairly and then subjecting them to some other injustice? I would feel that even in this issue Gandhiji’s approach was better, he stayed with the so called untouchables, he identified with them, he felt their pain and acted to ameliorate it. As had Periyar done, what point would setting Bhagwan Ram’s photo to fire or stamping over it prove? Was Ram an evil fellow to be disrespected like this? Was he such a villain that his photo should be stamped over? That is what I mean by “Can 2 negatives make a positive always”. Even Ram had eaten Shabri’sजूठा बेर (Plum pickings),.... did he not thus set an example that love lies above discrimination based on this caste business? Was he such a villain that his photo should be shown insult by being garlanded with a garland of shoes? If you do not wish to feel intimidation by the Aryans and the Brahmins then you just feel that in your heart... what is disrespecting Ram going to prove to you? Anyway did Ram stand for the domination of the Aryans over Non-Aryans?; did he do anything which shows he did that? One interesting question is : How much sacrifice did Periyar himself make for the cause of the lower caste people? Did he spend his entire life in their company?

Just look at the comments of Mr Srivatsan to this article "With due respect to Mr.Periyar, I'm shocked to read from Mr.Periyar that more people like Bhagat should've been hanged for the government to listen to. Did we not lose many great leaders to the tyrant British, how much more should be hanged?!"..... There is one suggestion for Periyar - (you should) "Start by being the change that you wish to see in the world". Incidentally this is a Mahatma Gandhi saying.
